Many shipwrecks lie off the coast at Hartland and the Maritime Museum at Appledore and the Ship Wreck Museum at Hartland
Quay provide a history lesson for those wishing to learn more.
On the western side of Bull Point the land slopes down towards Rockham Bay which has claimed a number of famous wrecks, including the 'Dulce Nombre de Jesus' in 1861 and the 'SS Collier', one of the first steamships to carry mail to Australia, in 1914, (though the crew, together with a dog and cat, were rescued). The ship's propeller, boiler and donkey engine can still be seen on the beach at low tide.
