Built in the 1300s, Dunster Gallox Bridge is close to the site of the gallows.
Gallox Bridge lies at the southern end of the mediaeval village of Dunster and was used to help pack animals to cross the River Avill. It is unusual in being a long two-span bridge with a raised causeway approaching from the village; many of these bridges are single span and have quite rough surfaces on them. It is the starting point for a number of walks which head out across Dunster Deer Park towards the remote Croydon Hill area which is almost free of public motor roads.
Gallox Bridge, Dunster, took packhorses across the River Avill
Gallox Bridge, a medieval packhorse bridge crossing the river Avill, is just a short walk from the water mill.
People, and horses of course, were using this bridge hundreds of years before Henry the Eighth came to the throne.
