Between Foreland Point and Porlock Bay landslips are commonplace. As a result the South West Coast Path has had to be diverted and limits have been placed on access to the area by vehicles.
The summit of Butter Hill (993ft) is crowned by a long-disused signal station. The mast is a television relay station for the Lynton/Lynmouth valley, but there is space in the hut to give shelter to walkers The fence keeps sheep out.
The lighthouse on Devon's farthest north point Foreland Point was built in 1900. It is reached by a hair-raising zig-zag road which Is not open to public vehicles, but may be walked.

Glenthorne cliffs offer a wonderfully unspoilt coastline which continues 6.5miles to Poriock Weir. The coast path may be followed, and there are 'let-out' paths to Hie A39 at Wingate Combe and Glentliorne
